10 kW Grid-Tied Solar Panel Installation in Biñan, Laguna

Location: Biñan, Laguna | Project type: Residential | System size: 10 kW grid-tied solar | Installed: September 27, 2024

Project summary: Ecoplus Solar Inc. designed and installed a 10 kW grid-tied solar PV system for a home in Biñan, Laguna. The system powers the household during the day, sends extra energy to the Meralco grid, and was built to bring down rising electricity bills without needing batteries.

The Challenge: Rising Electricity Costs in a Growing Laguna Household

Biñan is one of the fastest-growing cities in Laguna, and many of its households run air conditioners, refrigerators, water pumps and home office equipment all day. The household was facing the same thing many Meralco customers in Southern Luzon know well: monthly bills that kept climbing with every rate adjustment and every hot summer.

The family wanted to cut their dependence on grid electricity, lower their monthly costs over the long run and lower their household’s carbon footprint. They also wanted an investment that would add lasting value to their property.

The Solution: A Custom-Designed 10 kW Grid-Tied System

After a free ocular assessment, the Ecoplus engineering team suggested a 10 kW grid-tied solar panel PV system. This size fits households with heavy daytime use and monthly consumption in the mid-to-high range.

A grid-tied system works alongside the utility grid instead of replacing it:

  • During the day, the solar panels produce electricity that the home uses first, which directly cuts the energy drawn from Meralco.
  • When production exceeds demand, the extra energy can be exported to the grid.
  • At night or on heavy-overcast days, the home draws power from Meralco as usual, so the supply never drops.

Because there are no batteries, the system costs less upfront, needs less maintenance and pays for itself faster than a hybrid or off-grid setup. That makes it the most cost-effective choice for homes with reliable grid access.

Engineering and Installation

Every Ecoplus project follows a structured EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) process, and this Biñan installation went through each stage:

  1. Site survey and roof assessment. Our team checked the roof’s orientation, tilt, structural condition and any shading from nearby trees or buildings to find the best panel layout.
  2. System design. We sized the array and inverter around the household’s actual consumption, using past Meralco bills to match production to demand.
  3. Procurement. We sourced tier-1 solar panels and a grid-tie inverter from established manufacturers, backed by product and performance warranties.
  4. Installation. Our licensed installers mounted the panels on corrosion-resistant aluminum rails, ran DC and AC wiring to Philippine Electrical Code standards, and added the required protection devices: breakers, surge protection and proper grounding.
  5. Testing and commissioning. The system was tested in full before handover, and the client was walked through how to monitor daily production.

Expected Performance and Savings

Laguna gets about 4 to 4.5 peak sun hours a day on average. At that level, a 10 kW system can produce around 1,200 to 1,350 kWh per month, depending on the season, weather and panel orientation. For a typical household, that can offset a large share of the daytime electricity bill.

Over a system lifespan of 25 years or more, the savings add up a lot. Most residential grid-tied systems in the Meralco franchise area pay for themselves within a few years, and the rest of the system’s life produces nearly free electricity.

Net Metering Ready

Grid-tied systems under 100 kW qualify for the Net Metering Program under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008 (RA 9513) and the ERC Net Metering Rules. Through net metering, extra solar energy exported to the grid earns credits on the homeowner’s Meralco bill, which raises savings even further. Ecoplus helps clients with the full net metering application, from technical documents to coordination with the distribution utility.

The Result

The 10 kW system now powers the household with clean, renewable energy. The family gets:

  • Lower monthly electricity bills
  • Protection from future Meralco rate increases
  • A smaller household carbon footprint
  • Higher long-term property value

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 10 kW solar panel system right for my home?
A 10 kW system usually suits homes with several air conditioners or high daytime use. A free ocular assessment will confirm the right size based on your actual bills.

How much roof space does a 10 kW system need?
Usually around 50 to 60 square meters of unshaded roof, depending on panel wattage.

Does a grid-tied system work during a brownout?
No. For safety, grid-tied inverters shut down when the grid goes out. If you need backup power, ask us about hybrid systems with battery storage.
